What Britney Wants From The Dorchester Hotel in London

May 5, 2009

The Britney Spears comeback train will be taking its show across the pond next month for an eight-show stint at London’s 02 Arena and someone at CBS News got a hold of the contract rider given to The Dorchester Hotel for when Brit checks in.

· A room that has “never” been smoked in at all.
· Humidifiers in all areas.
· A selection of the latest magazines.
· A fresh selection of flowers that she will then arrange herself.
· DVDs of her favorite Marilyn Monroe movies.
· Books. Ideally, topical chick lit novels.
· Lighting must be 100 watt bulbs – no low lighting.
· Running routes for nearby Hyde Park. Also, horse-riding opportunities.
· A list of different routes to the venue from the hotel to keep the paparazzi at bay.

Horse-riding opportunities? Flower-arranging? “Topical chick lit novels?” These are hysterical. Since Britney is planning on staying eight days and since the Dorchester is a legendary hotel for celeb breakdowns and panic attacks, we fully expect some drama to happen. Hopefully, for Britney’s sake, it won’t be too major. by juliana – HotelChatter

Why Andaz London Is the World’s Best Hotel For ‘Party People’

May 1, 2009

Andaz London

There’s nothing quite like being right, is there? Since it opened, we’ve been loving Andaz London — and now, hotel booking website Trivago has joined the Andaz fanclub by naming it the best hotel in the world for “party people.”

They reckon that Andaz has the best “design, atmosphere, location and style” for nightlife-minded visitors, as well as an “uncomplicated style and prime location.” Meanwhile, the original Gansevoort in New York came in at a mere number 10.

Prime location is just about right – the East End is where it’s at if you’re after a proper party (the West End’s the place to spend three months’ salary on one night out, pull a footballer and dodge the punch-ups in the streets on your way home). Andaz is just around the corner from Shoreditch, Spitalfields and Brick Lane, and because the building is actually part of Liverpool Street Station, the connections into central London are top-notch, too.

Why else should party people love it? The free minibars? The reader in residence service? The refreshing lack of celebrity endorsements? While it’s great to stay in a bed that might once have housed a famous rear, we like a hotel to sell itself on something more than its guestlist.

No, most of all, we love Andaz because, despite it being an extremely cool hotel, there’s none of the standoffishness you’d normally expect extreme cool to breed.

Check out the full list of party hotels (and, coincidentally, the itinerary for our next nine trips) here.

Russell Crowe Stuns Hotel Staff by Eating Like a Normal Person

If you’re anything like us after returning to your hotel after a long day of work, you’re hungry. And you think to yourself, “Hey, self, I’m starving. Here are my options: I could pay a bajillion dollars to order from the hotels fancy-shmantsy menu from the Michelin-starred restaurant downstairs, munch on some poached and glazed royal Anjou pigeon, maybe grab a quickie bite of some of that cannelloni of foie gras and Jabugo ham — or I can just run down the street and get some $5.00 Indian food from the takeout place I like.”

And, again, if you’re anything like us, you understand that usually — most of the time — the decision at which you’re going to arrive is…option B. Cheap takeout from the Indian place.

Well, Russell Crowe did what most normal people in the world would do and opted for the Indian food several times while staying at the Pennyhill Park Hotel & Spa outside London, where he’s staying while filming Robin Hood — and apparently Crowe’s choice to skip the hotel’s restos (the Michelin-starred Latymer, whose menu items do include that Foie gras canneloni and Anjou pigeon, and The Brasserie) is front page news.

Per My Park Mag:

An amazed guest said: “He prefers a chicken tikka massala to the Michelin-star food at the hotel.”

Russell has visited the curry house a reported six times in two weeks during his stay in the English county, and has also been seen enjoying several pints of Guinness at local pub The Fighting Cocks.

What? Sometimes you just don’t want foie gras. Usually you just don’t want the foie gras. And might we suggest you let the man eat his tikka massala in peace? Lest you want it thrown at you, of course. Via: Jenna – HotelChatter
